Nostalgia
Nostalgia. The title of today's blog post. I can say with certainty, that almost no one I know can experience my current level of nostalgia. Then again, I only feel this way because I'm working on my manga, which involves my Secondary School (High School) life. While penning down the script and dialogue of my manga, my entire secondary school life flashed by in my head. I remember it all like it was yesterday. The ups and the downs, the moments we experience together as a class. This precious memory of mine, still runs rampant inside my head.
What pains me the most is that I only have 3 photographs to remember my classmates by. The rest of it are in fragmented images stored inside of my head, which only I myself can see. We're all but scattered now. A few of us still hangs out together in groups, but never in a full class anymore. As much as I want a full reunion of my secondary school class, I know that it can never happen. That's because a member of the class passed away last year. It is to be her one year death anniversary soon. The very last time that I saw her, was during Teacher's Day, where we still talked and laughed like always. None of us had any idea that she was to leave us forever just 2 weeks later.
My class was known to be notorious back in the days. There wasn't a teacher in the entire school that didn't know our class. We were infamous. We were on the morning assembly news every other day, and that's not a good thing. All of us were just bad to the bone. It's like they purposely dumped all the delinquents into one single class so as to minimise casualties. However, that's what makes the whole experience that much fun. I still remember how we brought beyblades and beyblade stadiums to our classroom and openly playing them. I still remember how we used to shout and stare down at other students who dared to enter our classroom to borrow stuff, especially the freshmen. I still remember how the girls used that dark tight space at the back of the classroom next to the steel cabinet to change clothes while we, the guys are still in the classroom. I still remember the whole bench dropping and 'OHHHHHHHHH' scenario. I still remember singing Happy Birthday to Shahl every single day, even though it's not her birthday. I still remember the fourth floor toilet, where we used to hang out. I still remember the 'Tao Huey Gang'. I still remember how we hanged our smelly socks and PE shirts in class. I still remember how we used to hate 4/4 and 4/5 for looking down on us. I still remember how we made Ms Yam cry, and Mr Toh coming to our class to shout at us. I still remember how we skipped Ms Uma's remedial classes together as a whole class. I still remember that Mum broke her foot, and we had to move our classroom to the first floor. I still remember the sandwich incident. I still remember our Secondary 3 chalet. I still remember how every teacher in the school thought we won't make it past O levels, but we proved otherwise. I still remember how we didn't forget to have fun even though the O level examinations were closing in.
I could go on more, but then this blog post would be nearly endless. If I were to type down my secondary school life in one sitting, the size of the document alone will be at 10 megabytes worth of text. I really want to re-live those moments of my life again, where I was the happiest. All of it is but a memory now. Time travelling to the past have been proven to be impossible, so there is no way to experience those happy days physically again. I have put my secondary school life in art form. My first manga is for you guys. No matter how far all of you are. No matter how old we've become. This series of manga, is a collection of happy memories put together in anime form. And it's dedicated to all of you.
