Cosfest 2009

I went to the yearly Cosfest at Downtown East today. To be precise, I went on the second day. I reached the place at around 12.30. Cosplayers were already there, but the actual event isn't starting till around 1. Being the curious prick I am, I entered the huge tent to check things out. First thing that caught my eye was this awesome Strike Freedom Gundam cosplay that was directly in the middle of the large hall. Needless to say, there was literally a swarm of people crowding around the poor guy. I rushed in hurriedly to take a few shots of him before he decides to stop posing. Luckily, I got around 3, all poorly taken though. After that fiasco, I went outside of the tent and managed to catch a glimpse of a Team Fortress 2 cosplay team still preparing. I initially wanted to ask them for a photo, but decided against it.

After a quick trip to the toilet, I went back into the tent again. This time, more people had arrived, and the friggin' place was crowded. I wandered around aimlessly until I saw a lone Mario cosplayer at the corner of the hall. The poor guy was just standing there, nobody wanted to take his picture. I then went and asked him for a picture. The dude agreed readily. After thanking him for the awesome Mario picture, I moved towards the Graffiti Wall. As always, I'm impressed by the art that was drawn on the wall. So many people are that much better than me. Says a lot to an aspiring manga artist. Then again, I always compare my drawings to other people in order to gauge how well my skills are. Guess it's a healthy habit. I took a few pictures of the wall and moved on.

I was about to move out of the tent again when I saw a Cagalli and Lacus cosplayer posing next to a table. I quickly jumped in and took a picture of them. Nice, first decent shot I've taken all day. After taking their picture, I turned around and saw a Hatsune Miku cosplay. Being the uber fan I am of Hatsune Miku, I quickly asked for a picture and took it at an angle. Unfortunately, it was badly taken. I tried another one, but it didn't turn out good as well. I gave up in the end. I continued walking around. Needless to say, there were a lot of Bleach, Naruto and Vampire Knight cosplays. Fail. Moving on, I saw a funny cosplay of Major Alex Louis Armstrong from Full Metal Alchemist. He was going all 'YOU WANT TO JOIN MY CLUB? >=O'. I laughed, and moved on, slightly freaked out, and thus, forgetting to ask him for a picture. I then took a picture of a Hentai Bunny, and uhh, that's about it. I left just after the event started, as I was feeling damn lonely, and I was never good with crowds anyways. I left the place at roughly 2pm.

To tell the truth, I was feeling unhappy ever since stepping into the huge tent. Plenty of thoughts flowed into my head. How we were supposed to be participating in the Cosfest this year, but couldn't because of army. How most of my friends generally despise cosplaying because of the cost needed to make the outfit. And so on. Being alone all that while didn't help either. I couldn't find anybody to accompany me.

For once, JUST ONCE in my life, I'd really like to cosplay as some 'Cool' character. Y'know, cloak, flashy outfit, uber hairstyle, etc. I mean, who wouldn't want to look good? The problem is, most of these 'Cool' cosplays are usually done to death by people who goes, 'ZOMG, I saw this cool character in an anime and I must cosplay him/her!'. Oh, and they usually suck. But well, my ideas for cosplays are usually.... not very well-recieved among my small group of cosplaying friends. If Mel and Rick really do what they talked about next year - going as Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter, next year's a goner too. I've no interest in Street Fighter whatsoever. I'd cosplay as something else, but I'll be damn out of place. And trust me, that feeling isn't good at all. I'd go to the Cosfest cosplaying all alone, but... yeah.

Why can't my friends be like all the other cosplayers? They always seem to have one enthusiastic large group who is A-OK with cosplaying, and have no qualms about the cost needed to make their outfits. All in all, I'm sad, I'm dejected, and I'm slightly pissed off. I shouldn't have went to Cosfest this year. ...or maybe the next too.

One more cosplay event coming up at the end of year, Matsuri. ....Not sure if I should attend that one now.
